Industry Hanson

Hanson

Hanson: A technical challenge

Powerflow used all its technical skills to help to improve water supplies at a London concrete plant belonging to Hanson, one of the UK's largest suppliers of building materials including pre-mixed concrete. Water is a critical component for Hanson - each cement-mixer lorry uses between 800-1,000 litres of water, at a substantial cost per litre. Working with ?JDIH water consultants?, Powerflow installed borehole pumps and associated pipe systems into the concrete plant, so that Hanson no longer had to use mains water.

Simon Heelas, Powerflow's MD, explains, "This was a job where our Safety Passport meant we were qualified to work on site, and we brought all our experience to bear. Working in and around the daily operations of the plant, we carried out full risk assessments to ensure safe working - the project involved both working at height using cherry pickers, and in confined spaces where we used specialised techniques and equipment. We also worked through the evenings to dig up the yard when the plant was not operating, to reduce disruption to Hanson."
